  • Overview

    The Massage Therapist works collaboratively with the other patient care departments to integrate massage therapy into the delivery of patient care at Gritman Medical Center.


    The Massage Therapist is responsible for delivering safe, high quality massage therapy care to inpatients and outpatients in accordance with national and professional massage therapy standards and Gritman Medical Center policies and procedures.


    May also include other work related services as designated by the Department Director.


    Minimum Education
    The Massage Therapist will have graduated with a minimum of 500 hours of formal training at an established/accredited school of massage therapy.
    Required Skills
    Must demonstrate a commitment to excellent customer service and patient care.
    Required Skills
    Must demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and advanced continuing education. Area's of practice related, but not limited to: hospital based massage therapy, pregnancy massage, oncology and hospice massage.
    Minimum Work Experience
    Work and / or training experience in a clinical / hospital setting. 

    Five years experience preferred.
    Required Licenses
    [Idaho, United States] Massage Therapists 
    Required: Current and active State of Idaho Massage Therapist License. 

    Required: Maintain Basic Life Support (First Aid and CPR) and Gritman Medical Center employment requirements. 

    Required: Hold current and active membership of a nationally recognized professional association (AMTA, ABMP), with appropriate professional liability insurance. 

    Preferred: National/Board Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. 

    Preferred: Current and active Washington State Massage Practitioner License


    Provides direct patient care, evaluates needs and outcomes, and consults with other specialists as needed. 

    Reviews patient’s needs and adjusts care plan as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcome. 

    Designs and implements a plan of care for the patient based on a thorough assessment of potential development and incorporates participation by significant others whenever it seems possible. 

    Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care. 

    Directs the assistance of support staff in order to achieve the patient’s goals. 

    Communicates effectively with other professional and support staff in order to achieve positive patient outcomes. 

    Practices established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. 

    Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans. Regularly updates documentation and maintains all required prescriptions and signatures. 

    Enhances professional growth and development of self and other through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on current professional literature. 

    Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote massage therapy within the community.
