  • Overview

    Collaborates with members of the health care team to provide medical nutrition therapy. Identifies patients at high nutrition risk based on criteria outlined by the Hospital. Assesses nutrition needs and identifies nutrient requirements according to age and disease specific needs of patients. Develops and implements the nutrition care plan for all assigned patients. Fosters continuity of care among all phases across the continuum of care. Continuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of medical nutrition therapy intervention. Provides nutrition education to patient and family members on appropriate food selections and eating behaviors to accomplish patient goals. Participates in performance improvement and research activities. Mentors dietetic interns and students. Actively assesses, evaluates and maintains professional development and competency related to competencies outlined.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education
    Bachelor’s degree with specialized training in Dietetics, and previous experience in clinical dietetics. Knowledge of current nutrition standards of care.

    Required Licenses
    [Idaho, United StatesDietitians and Nutritionists 
    Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics 
    Licensed in the State of Idaho

    Responsibilities

    Assess the nutrition status of individuals and groups in the inpatient and outpatient setting.
    The dietitian will assess each patient to identify nutrition needs.
     
    Diagnose nutrition problems and create problem, etiology, signs and symptoms (PES) statement.
    Using the EMR the dietitian will document patient's needs and care plan.
     
    Monitor and evaluate problems, etiologies, signs, symptoms and the impact of interventions on the nutrition diagnosis.
    The dietitian will monitor and evaluate patient progress.
     
    Complete documentation that follows professional guidelines and guidelines required by Gritman Medical Center.
    The dietitian will use EMR appropriately.
     
    Demonstrate effective communications skills for clinical and customer service.
    To maximizing client education the dietitian will use a variety of formats such as oral, print, visual, interactive and electronic.
     
    Develop and deliver programs and services that promote consumer health, wellness and lifestyle management.
    The dietitian will participate in providing nutrition education to local health fairs, speaking engagements and other community events.
     
    Deliver respectful, science-based answers to consumer question concerning emerging trends.
    The dietitian will provide and interpret acceptable nutrition information.

    Practice in compliance with current federal regulations and state statutes and rules, as applicable and in accordance with accreditations standards and the Scope of Dietetics Practice and Code of Ethics for the Profession of Dietetics.Will practice within the scope of practice for dietitians.
     
    Demonstrate professional writing skills in preparing professional communications.
    The dietitian will be included in Policy and Procedure revisions and updating educational materials.
     
    Design, implement and evaluate presentations to a target audience.
    the dietitian will provide presentations that are designed for target audiences. They will take into consideration life experiences, cultural diversity and educational background of the audience.
     
    Use effective education and couseling skills to facilitate behavior change.
    The dietitian will use the Motivational Interviewing approach.
     
    Demonstrate active participation, teamwork and contributions in group settings.
    The dietitian will participate in morning team meeting on the MSU and CCU. They will be part of the nutrition and diabetes teams. They will also interact with the food service department.
