    Job Summary:

    Responsible for the ongoing effective operation of Bertie’s Gift Shoppe, including volunteer coordination, orientation, training and supervision, pricing and displays as well as assuring that all equipment is maintained. Eye for design and purchasing a must. Will be supported through the budgeting, bookkeeping, and buying processes. Must be able to support the Medical Center's Philosophy and Mission.
    Performs duties as assigned and reports to the Volunteer Services Coordinator in coordination with the Auxiliary.

    Job Requirements:

     

    Minimum Education:
    High school diploma or equivalent.

    Minimum Work Experience:
    Prefer experience in retail. Sample displays requested as part of interview process.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions:

    • Review merchandise trends and shop needs, ensuring appropriate inventory levels and timely receipt of merchandise; initiate re-orders. Ensures reasonable and profitable markup procedures are followed.
    • Responsible for receiving of merchandise, reviewing, reconciling and approving payment of invoices and accounts payable related to give shop operations.
    • Maintains current knowledge of Point of Sale (POS) cash register system, coordinating updates and changes with information system staff and training volunteers to use the system.
    • Designs or directs creative, attractive merchandise displays to attract customers in the most effective manner.
    • Responsible for providing and reporting monthly Net Income reports to the Auxiliary and Volunteer Services Coordinator. Will attend monthly meetings as scheduled.
    • Responsible for orientation of new Gift Shop volunteers.
    • Responsible for scheduling and supervising Gift Shop Volunteers.
    • Responsible for positive and effective relationships with vendors to ensure smooth merchandise purchasing and returns.

    Population Served
    Constant contact with the general public. Frequent contact with Medical Center volunteers, employees, patients and visitors. Must maintain pleasant, friendly and patient attitude at all times. 
     
    Physical Demands
    The position requires considerable standing, walking, climbing and descending stairs, pushing and lifting. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. Work environment may be busy with frequent interruptions. Gift Shop hours are generally 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., five days a week, but shifts may vary depending on work load and volunteer availability.
