    Job Summary:

    The Department Director is responsible for all functions of the department. The Director reports directly to the CNO and is a member of the management team at GMC. The Director will have demonstrable skills in leadership, management, interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, and problem solving. The functions of the Director include: financial management of the department including budget development and ongoing evaluation; management of human resources; responsibilities and duties as a member of a multi disciplinary team; leadership as a mentor for staff members; strategic planning; day to day operations; procurement and maintenance of supplies and equipment, including purchasing capital equipment; contract maintenance; maintaining and developing policies and procedures; identifying and implementing performance improvement initiatives and evaluating effectiveness; maintaining departmental regulatory compliance; developing and maintaining the department chargemaster; developing and implementing a patient focused staffing plan. The Director participates in, or delegates appropriate participation in, all performance improvement teams, medical staff committees and work teams at GMC. The Director will have and maintain adequate physical and mental health to meet job performance criteria. The Director will demonstrate a code of conduct consistent with GMC’s mission, vision and values and ethical business practice policies and will act as a role model for all other staff members.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Education
    Department Director will complete and maintain all hospital wide and Department Director core and annual competency assessments.

     

    BLS Required
    Minimum Education
    Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Business Managment

    Essential Functions
    • Responsible for the development, implementation, management and evaluation of the department finances. This includes but is not limited to Capital and Operational Budget.
    • Develops a Strategic Department Plan that gives direction to the department and is compatible with the Organizational Strategic Plan.
    • Assures the continuing daily functions of the department in a safe, respectful and progressive manner including but not limited to surgical processes, policy and procedures, education, etc.
    • Leads and mentors the Quality process in Surgical Services and fosters shared governance within the department.
    • Assures regulatory compliance.

    Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric. All genders, race, ethnic, sociopolitical, demographic, marital and sexual preference groups, developmental and physical abilities, religions, and nationalities. May have impairments of any or all body systems and senses. 

     

    Physical Demands
    Lifting:
    Occasional - Maximum of 40lbs. floor to waist, 2xper hour, 12x day.
    Frequent- Maximum of 2-8 lbs., floor to overhead, 10x hour,60x per shift.
    Items Lifted - CPM, Trays, IV’s, linen, medical equipment.

    Transfers: Bed-Bed, Floor-Bed, Stand Pivot, Bed-Chair: Min- Max Assist required up to 30 times per 12 hour shift. Up to 8 times per hour.

    Push/Pull: Moderate force required for bed and W/C pushing from 5-100 yards. Minimal force to push trays, medical carts etc., Total pushes per day: up to 30.

    Carry: 2-8 lbs.

    Fine Motor: High level required for injections, computer use etc.

    Standing: up to 5 hours at one time and 10 hours per day.

    Sitting: up to 30 minutes at one time and 2 hours per day.

    Kneeling: up to 5 minutes at one time and 15 minutes per day.

    Stooping: up to 15 minutes at one time and 1 hour per day.

    Climbing: up to 1 minutes at one time and 5 minutes per day.

     

    Environmental Conditions
    Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne disease.

    Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.

    May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements, i.e., accidents, injuries, and illnesses.

    Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; emergencies and crisis situations.

    Occasionally subjected to irregular hours/shifts.

    Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and injuries.
