Position Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) provides basic nursing care, within their scope of practice, to patients at the direction of the Staff RN or LPN. The primary duties of the C.N.A are to assist patients with activities of daily living and to provide for basic patient care needs and comfort. They may assist the nursing staff with the development of the patient care plan. The C.N.A will demonstrate safe and competent nursing care, reflective of the philosophy and standards of Gritman Medical Center, following the guidelines and rules set forth by the Idaho State Board of Nursing, American Nurses' Association and the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. They will communicate effectively with other care givers and function as a member of the patient care team. They are directly accountable to the staff nurse and will report patient outcomes as appropriate. The C.N.A. will have and maintain adequate physical and mental health to meet job performance criteria. The C.N.A. will demonstrate a code of conduct reflective of Gritman Medical Center's mission, vision, and values.

Qualifications

Qualifications, Education, Training, & Experience:

The C.N.A. must be a high school graduate or equivalent. Must have completed an approved nursing assistant course and have Idaho State Nursing Assistant certification on the State of Idaho nursing assistant registry. Will have and maintain Gritman Medical Center core C.N.A competencies assessments. Will have and maintain department specific required core competencies, education, experience and certifications as defined in the policies of each nursing unit.

 

License/Registration:

Must be certified and registered on the Idaho State Nursing Assistant registry and in good standing. Must have current Basic Life Support certification or obtain BLS certification at the next available class, as determined by the Department Director.

Responsibilities

Population Served:

Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. All genders, race, ethnic, sociopolitical, demographic, marital and sexual preference groups, developmental and physical abilities, religions, and nationalities. May have impairments of any or all body systems and senses.

 

Physical Demands:

Considerable lifting, positioning, and transferring of patients. Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking. Lifts, positions, pushes, and/or transfers patients. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching. Must possess good manual and finger dexterity. Visual requirements include near and far acuity, depth perception, color differentiation, and focusing ability. Hearing, speech and sense of touch essential. Occasional repetitive motion activities.

 

Environmental Conditions:

Location: Inside. Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne disease and other infectious diseases. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances. May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements, i.e., accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations; potentially violent or angry patients and families; emergencies and crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours/shifts. Frequently required to function competently with multiple demands and tasks. May be exposed to noxious and potentially hazardous fumes.
